The original comics read to me like a story by and about a straight guy who has a lot of queer friends but isn't really engaging with his own sexuality that deeply. I still adore many things about the movie but I'm glad to hear that new adaptations are widening the focus and getting more perspectives.

Now here's a topic I can chime in on!

I'm a total Scott Pilgrim fanboy, having read and re-read the books several times. When the anime adaptation was announced, I was over the moon. It just seemed like a natural move, as O'Malley is a big anime and manga head. Plus, Science Saru did one of my favorite Adventure Time episodes ("Food Chain"), so I was extra excited. I was NOT disappointed. And like many, I didn't expect the change in story direction and focus on Ramona. Truthfully, I thought it was gonna be something closer to the comics with the addition of the Stephen Stills/Joseph romance that was skipped in the other adaptations. I think there are a number of folks still waiting on that, to say the least.

Unfortunately, I think the one person that didn't come off looking great via voice acting was Aubrey Plaza, and I love her work otherwise. Her take on Julie this time came off kinda wooden. This drove home for me one of the differences between western animation and the anime industry: in anime, the animation gets done first, then the voiceovers happen. I don't know if that was a factor in how Plaza's performance ended up, though. (shrug)

I loved the deeper look into Roxy and Ramona's relationship. I was like "I get the animosity now."

I'm overdue for a rewatch!

Lux, I don't know if you saw or wrote about this recent article titled, "Genetic variants underlying male bisexual behavior, risk-taking linked to more children, study shows." It comes from the University of Michigan and...well...shit...what can I say? As we both know, bisexuality has enough hard bullshit around it in general, but it's this kind of trope that makes it so difficult to be an out bi male and try to date. It's fucking exasperating.
