Heads up!
Hey all,
As I’ve mentioned a few times, I’ve decided to transition off of Substack because I do not feel good about the company’s willingness to platform both transphobes and white supremacists, and my “I’ll be on Substack but I won’t charge for the newsletter” compromise has ceased to feel good. But since I’m devoted to making things complicated for myself I am switching to Patreon and a blog rather than something seamless like Buttondown or whatever (sorry, I’m just a difficult woman).
So:
From this week forward, the Substack will only be used for a weekly roundup of links to the posts that I have written on my blog (which is still being tweaked, UX wise, but has the complete archive of all B+ Squad essays), which get cross posted to Patreon for people who want to receive them by email. Patreon posts are free to all subscribers, but $5+ Patreon subscribers get posts a day before they go live on the blog.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I cannot add you to Patreon by myself, you must opt in. If you would like to keep receiving The B+ Squad as a (mostly) daily newsletter, joining the Patreon is the best route for now, since I don’t have the brain space to figure out how to make Wordpress email posts to people (maybe one day). I want to stress again that the Patreon is free, and if you join at the free level you will get the same essays you would have gotten here.
I am very bad at marketing and promotion and all the things that one is supposed to do to Build A Platform™️ but very good at having weird thoughts about niche topics that people like you like to read. TBPH I don’t care so much about big my subscriber base is so long as the people who value and benefit from my writing get to read it, but I want to give the 1000 or so of you who have not switched from here to Patreon the chance to do it, hence keeping this alive as a zombie weekly roundup. (Also for some reason people keep subscribing to this Substack in spite of my complete and total lack of promotion?)
But it would be nice to have all of you over at Patreon! It would be even nicer if you were inspired to give me $1/month (or more, I came up with some other benefits that I can hopefully stick to!), but honestly I care more about you reading stuff that makes the world feel a little less shit than anything else.
Okay I think that’s all I had to say, gonna end this awkward letter here.
See you over at Patreon, or on Friday, when I’ll shoot out a weekly roundup of what I wrote this week.
Bisexually yours,
Lux
